Vietri di Potenza

Province: Potenza · Region: Basilicata · Population: 2,917 · Postal code: 85058

The olive is called cornacchiola, and at Vietri the biggest ones do not go to the mill: they are salted, stirred several times a day for five or six days, dried in the sun for a week, then washed in warm water and dressed with oil, salt, garlic and oregano. Since 2020 it has been on the list of traditional food products.

The town is called the gateway to Lucania, because it is the first you meet coming from Campania, and it climbs across several rises: the bottom sits at 200 metres and the old centre reaches 405. In the mother church there is a Madonna and Child that Paolo de Matteis painted around 1718. There are 2,917 residents.
