Diamante has two religions: the mural and the chilli pepper. Since 1981 artists from around the world have painted the centre's houses — the murals now exceed three hundred, from realism to street art — and in September the Peperoncino Festival turns the seafront into Italy's spicy capital, an Academy defending the cult.
