The patron of Rende is the Madonna Immaculate, whose small statue appears above the portal of the town's mother church, Santa Maria Maggiore: the patronal feast is held every year on the last Sunday of June.
The church of Santa Maria Maggiore, dedicated to Our Lady of the Snow, is the most important in Rende; probably built in the 12th century, it was rebuilt several times because of earthquakes, particularly in the early 1500s and between 1740 and 1799. It stands at the top of a broad staircase, with a stepped façade featuring three tuff portals and a central rose window, and holds inside, on a Latin-cross plan with three naves, works of great artistic and devotional value.
