The patron of Spilinga is Saint John the Baptist, celebrated on 24 June; the municipality holds the Chiesa San Giovanni Battista, the Santuario Madonna della Fonte and the Chiesa Madonna dei Cento Ferri.
The main resources of the municipality are farming and the raising of cattle and pigs: well known is the 'nduja, a cured meat made from the fatty parts of the pig with the addition of hot Calabrian chilli pepper, and every year on 8 August the 'nduja sagra is held. Since 2010 Spilinga has also hosted the «Festival internazionale della lyra del Mediterraneo» (international festival of the Mediterranean lyra).
