The patron of Lapio is Saint Peter Martyr, celebrated on 29 April.
One of the town's most deeply felt traditions is that of the Misteri, 22 papier-mâché tableaux (tavolate) depicting the Passion and death of Jesus: they are displayed in the Chiesa Madre on the Saturday before Palm Sunday and then along the streets on Good Friday, accompanying the solemn procession of the dead Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows.
