Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua
📅 Every year, on 13 June (13 August is also among its feast days)
On 13 June Reino, a municipality of 1,262 inhabitants in the province of Benevento, celebrates its patron Saint Anthony of Padua.
Through Reino runs the Pescasseroli-Candela drove road, one of the great routes of transhumance. Nearby stood Bebiano, and its name comes from a deportation: in 180 before Christ the Romans defeated the Apuan Ligurians and moved forty thousand of them into Samnium, by decree of the senate, as Livy tells it, under the proconsul Marcus Baebius. The village appears as castello Regino already in 699.
The women's costume of Reino is of the eighteenth century and reads like a document: pleated skirt, bodice embroidered in gold cord, apron, shawl, head kerchief, gold necklace with pendants. Round the waist goes the ziarella, a coloured band whose colours and embroidery change according to the marital status of the woman wearing it. Examples are in the Museo del Sannio and in Venice.
