In 1810 the feudal commission abolished every tax in the village: the people were too poor to pay them. Four years later Valle broke away from Prata Sannita, on which it had depended for centuries, and became a comune. In 1863 it changed its name too, from Valle di Prata to Valle Agricola.
The coat of arms appears for the first time in the land register of 1743: four blue points for the four quarters the village grew out of — Colle, Piscupanne, Pizzuni and Terra — and the letters V.D.P., which recall the old name. In 1980 the people voted on whether to call themselves Valle Matese, and by a narrow margin they said no.
