Locals call it San Żvân: San Giovanni in Persiceto holds the northern edge of the Metropolitan City of Bologna. Between 1912 and 1927, the municipality briefly shortened its official name to simply Persiceto.
With roughly 27,000 residents, the town sits exactly where the Bolognese district meets the provinces of Modena and Ferrara. In 2012, it helped establish the "Terre d'Acqua" (Lands of Water) union, an administrative alliance formed with neighboring municipalities like Anzola dell'Emilia and Crevalcore.
