Civitella di Romagna

Province: Forlì-Cesena · Region: Emilia-Romagna · Population: 3,792 · Postal code: 47012

The name means little city, and on the coat of arms a keep repeats it. The Girone hill has a castrum documented from 1037: it belonged to the abbey of Sant'Ellero di Galeata, which then ceded it to the archbishop of Ravenna; it passed to the Severi counts of Giaggiolo, from whose arms the town's own come, and in 1276, after the battle of Civitella, to the Manfredi of Faenza.

On the first of November they hold the Fiera dei Santi, still a real livestock fair, with the market along the streets of the village. For that day they make the panza, a cake of poor cooking: bitter cocoa, fig jam, candied fruit, almonds, raisins and a cup of coffee. The Golfarelli theatre, on the other hand, opened in 1825.
