Feast of Our Lady of Loreto
📅 Every year, on 10 December
On 10 December Montefiorino celebrates its patroness, Our Lady of Loreto; the town is known for its medieval fortress.
In the summer of 1944 Montefiorino was the centre of the partisan republic that took its name, and the village is remembered among the first in Italy to be freed by the partisans; then came operation Wallenstein, the Nazi-fascist sweeps. On 28 February 1970 the municipality was awarded the gold medal for military valour.
Inside the medieval fortress at the top of the village are the town hall and the Museum of the Resistance; from the tower you look over the two valleys of the Dolo and the Dragone. The first to live on this mountain were the Friniate Ligurians, and in the Dragone valley the place names still keep the mark of the Gauls, who came up the rivers from the plain. Palagano, today a municipality of its own, was a hamlet of Montefiorino until 1957.
