Feast of Santa Maria Assunta
📅 Every year, on 15 August
On 15 August Albareto, a municipality of 2,165 inhabitants in the province of Parma, celebrates its patroness Santa Maria Assunta (Assumption of Mary).
The coat of arms says three things about the village: the bands come from the Fieschi of Lavagna, who were lords of Albareto until 1574; the moon stands for the old diocese of Luni, to which the valley belonged; the tree is a poplar, and in dialect the poplar is called albarèl, which is the name of the village itself.
The territory touches Liguria on one side and Tuscany on the other: the neighbouring comuni lie in three different regions, and this is the Taro valley. In 1999 Albareto was given the silver medal for military valour for what its people did and suffered with the partisans during the war.
