Feast of Saint Joseph
📅 Every year, on 19 March
On 19 March Corte Brugnatella celebrates its patron Saint Joseph; at the area's festivities the Apennine piffero leads the dances, and Marsaglia keeps the calendimaggio rite.
Corte Brugnatella has moved house three times. The name comes from the Brugnatelli family, and the municipality's first seat was in their fortified village of Brugnello; then it went to Confiente and finally to Marsaglia, where it is today, because the new course of the main road ran there while the old one kept higher up the slope. The parish followed the town hall, and the old village emptied: it has been brought back to life only recently.
The municipality also has two exclaves, the localities of Lama superiore and Valle inferiore, which lie inside a municipality in the province of Pavia: rare cases of an enclave between two regions. It was itself in Pavia's province until 1923, when it passed to Piacenza and so to Emilia-Romagna. In 1953 a cloudburst over the upper Trebbia valley killed ten people in the valley and swept away the bridge at Marsaglia, later rebuilt to a design by Riccardo Morandi.
