Saint Lucy and the Forgotten Fruits Festival
📅 Every year, on 13 December
Casola Valsenio celebrates Saint Lucy of Syracuse on 13 December. In autumn the town hosts the Festa dei Frutti Dimenticati, born in 1990 from the historic Mid-Lent Festival.
On the twenty-seventh of October 1523 the troops of Imola attacked Casola and brought down eighty houses; the people shut themselves in the Ceroni fortress and the next day, while the attackers were climbing the mountain, they rolled barrels full of stones down on them. The men of Imola went away leaving six guns on the field.
In the fourteen hundreds seven parishes were taken from Casola by force of arms and given to Brisighella, and the boundary ended up a few hundred metres from the houses: a smaller comune also collected less tax. It took three centuries: on the sixteenth of July 1816 Pius VII, advised by a monsignor born here, put the boundary back on the Sintria.
