The patron saint of Castel Bolognese is Saint Petronius, celebrated on Whit Monday in the Church of San Petronio; the co-patron is Saint Emygdius.
In the same period, a feast in honour of the Blessed Virgin has been celebrated for centuries, instituted as thanksgiving for averting the scourge of the plague, a custom still alive today and joined since 1966 by the traditional Pentecost Fair. In 1893, the statue of the Madonna suffered a serious outrage, its head found severed; after restoration, in September, solemn reparatory feasts were held. The town also holds the Church of San Francesco and the Civic Museum.
