The valley is also called the Valley of Time, because at Pesariis clocks have been made for a very long time: there is a museum of clockmaking, and also the museum of a house, the Casa Bruseschi. At Pieria was built the first casa del popolo in Carnia, which is now the municipal library.

Every hamlet had its nickname, and they were strung together in two rhymes: pork butchers those of Sostasio, stubborn those of Avausa, lazy those of Pradumbli, deaf those of Mulitòn, foolish those of Pieria, big men those of Truia, surly those of Osais and overbearing those of Pesariis. The roofs here are covered with planelàs, flat tiles the Germans call beaver tails.
