Feast of Saint Blaise
📅 Every year, on 3 February
On 3 February Sutrio celebrates its patron Saint Blaise; on the last Sunday of July the hay harvest is re-enacted on the Zoncolan with the «Fasìn la mede» festival.
Sutrio is a village of wood carvers: the workshops work timber, and the piece that holds it all together is Teno's animated nativity scene, which Gaudenzio Straulino built over more than thirty years. From Christmas to Epiphany the handmade cribs spread through the courtyards, loggias and cellars of the old houses, and the village itself becomes the route.
The hamlets are older than the main village, at least on paper: Nojaris and Priola appear in 1176, in a document by which pope Alexander III gives these lands to the patriarch of Aquileia, while the name of Sutrio is first read only in 1300. Above the village rises the Zoncolan, which the Giro d'Italia discovered on 22 May 2003 and which passes for the hardest climb in Europe.
