Feast of Saint Felix and Saint Anthony
📅 Every year, on 18 January and 16 June
Posta has two patrons, Saint Felix and Saint Anthony, celebrated on 18 January and 16 June; the town holds the Chiesa di San Felice.
Posta was Abruzzese for six hundred years: until 1927 it belonged to the province of L'Aquila, and before that to the justiciarate of Abruzzo. The name perhaps comes from «in place of»: the people of the castle of Machilone, which the men of L'Aquila destroyed in 1299, were allowed to build themselves a new village not far off, and this is it.
The other explanation is that posta was the toll to be paid to enter the market, and it is supported by a fresco at the gate in the walls listing the prices of goods: a price list painted on the wall. On the plain of Bacugno stood the Forum Decii, the Roman market on the Salaria that Pliny names among the Sabine places; of the church of San Francesco a fourteenth-century bell remains.
