Feast of Saint Restituta
📅 Every year, on 27 May
On 27 May Borbona, a municipality of 650 inhabitants in the province of Rieti, celebrates its patroness Saint Restituta, to whom one of the town's churches is dedicated.
In the middle of September the poets who sing a braccio come here, that is, improvising in octaves: it is the regional festival, and the best of central Italy take part. In a village of a few hundred people there are two bands: the Alpini fanfare and the one named after Concezio Colandrea, which dates from 1894 and is twinned with the band of Candelo, in Piedmont.
For more than six hundred years, from 1233 to 1861, Borbona was land of Abruzzo: the justiciarate of Abruzzo, then Abruzzo Ulteriore Secondo, district of Cittaducale, with L'Aquila as its capital. It stayed there after unification too, and passed to Lazio only in 1927, when the province of Rieti was created. On the third Sunday of October the bean festival is held.
