Marano Equo

Province: Rome · Region: Lazio · Population: 786 · Postal code: 00020

At the foot of the hill the water comes out in quantity, and not only today: the Aqua Claudia, like the Marcia and the Augusta, took it from the little lakes formed by two springs between Arsoli and Marano, called Curzia and Cerulea for how clear they were. Rome, in short, drank from here too.

Until about 1870 the village was called simply Marano; then Equo was added to it, from the ancient people of the Aequi. Of the castle, which appears in a bull of Paschal II, the great tower is left, and the shape of the place can still be read: the master's house at the top, in front of it the Piazza di Corte and a small church.
