In the first half of the nineteenth century the young people of the village went down to Rome to pose for the foreign painters around piazza di Spagna; then the painters came up to see where their models were from, and stayed. They rented the stables and made them into houses and studios: a census of 1935 counted fifty-five. Kokoschka and Felice Carena hang in the civic museum, and the fountain in piazza delle Ville is by Arturo Martini.

The oldest mention is a Greek inscription of the eighth century which lists a Fundus Antikuis among the properties of a Roman monastery. For nearly three centuries the lordship was disputed between the abbey of Subiaco and lay claimants; in 1256 it passed to Corrado di Antiochia, grandson of Frederick II, and the village added his name to its own to remember him.
