Feast of San Giovanni Battista
📅 Every year, on 29 August
On 29 August Lubriano, a municipality of 919 inhabitants in the province of Viterbo, celebrates its patron San Giovanni Battista.
The Etruscan tombs of this countryside have had a second life as stables and sheds, and under the fields runs a network of tunnels that served as an aqueduct. Inside the parish church a Roman funerary cippus is kept: a Tullius Cornelianus had it made for his wife Optata Sabina, and it was found in the place called Fontana Vecchia.
The village stretches along a spur of tuff, and piazza San Giovanni Battista is a balcony over the valley of the Calanchi, right opposite Civita di Bagnoregio. On the arms there is no bishop saint but a shepherd boy, san Procolo, with his rod in one hand and a three-towered castle in the other. A deed of 824 is signed by a Domnolino, cleric of the Vicus Cimmerianus, which is held to be Lubriano.
