Isola del Cantone

Province: Genoa · Region: Liguria · Population: 1,535 · Postal code: 16017

This is the northernmost piece of Liguria there is. The name comes from the position, Insula, where the Vobbia flows into the Scrivia, and the municipality is the sum of two villages, Isola and Cantone. In 1218 the fief was divided along the river: the left bank to Genoa, the right to Tortona.

On the coat of arms is written Fluminibus detergor, montibus tutor, 'I am washed by the rivers, protected by the mountains'. Today, though, the village is hemmed in by the motorway, the Giovi trunk road and the Turin-Genoa railway, which all run past it. The population is 1,535.

📅 Every year, on the second Sunday of August
