The patron of Portofino is Saint George and the feast falls on the first Sunday of April, not on the 23rd as elsewhere. The church dedicated to him stands on the headland, above the piazzetta and the harbour.
It is a village feast in the strict sense: little more than four hundred people live in Portofino, and in April the season has not yet begun.
