Zoagli

Province: Genoa · Region: Liguria · Population: 2,516 · Postal code: 16035

At Zoagli they weave silk, and its fabrics are still sold half across the world. The coat of arms carries two colours, blue and yellow: those of the village's two largest confraternities, the sailors' and the weavers'. The cliff walk, instead, was paid for by the inhabitants in the nineteen-thirties.

On the morning of 27 December 1943 an allied air formation aimed at the railway bridge and all but levelled the village: town hall, parish church, hospital, many houses, and a number of dead. The square before the rebuilt town hall bears the name of that date. From the hills starts the path of the five bell towers, twelve kilometres among the hamlets' old churches. The population is 2,516.
