The patron saint of Ameglia is Saint Paschal, celebrated on 17 May. The village, overlooking the river Magra, is dominated by the castle built in 1174 by the bishops of Luni: passed in the mid-15th century to the Bank of San Giorgio and then to the Republic of Genoa, the building served as the town hall until 2008. The defensive walls and the castle tower likewise date from the 13th century.
The parish church of the main town, dedicated to Saints Vincent and Anastasius, was rebuilt in 1932 on the foundations of an old 15th-century pieve; each hamlet of the municipality has its own church, such as that of Saint Andrew the Apostle at Bocca di Magra or Saint Peter the Apostle at Montemarcello, the hamlet that gives its name to the regional nature park covering the municipal territory.
