Zuccarello

Province: Savona · Region: Liguria · Population: 322 · Postal code: 17039

Zuccarello has its birth certificate: on 4 April 1248 the marquises of Clavesana and the representatives of the people of the Val Neva signed before a notary the deed that founded the village, and that document is still in the town archive. The statutes came in 1281, among the oldest in western Liguria.

Then a village of three hundred souls set half of Europe quarrelling: in 1588 marquis Scipione Del Carretto sold his share to Savoy, Genoa sent an ambassador to the emperor in Prague, and the 'Zuccarello case' ended by setting off, in 1625, a war between Genoa and the duchy of Savoy. The population is 322.
