The patron of Zuccarello is Saint Bartholomew, celebrated on 24 August in the church dedicated to him, at the heart of the old town. The parish church was built together with the town in the 13th century, though some sources place its founding between the 11th and 12th centuries, well before the official birth of Zuccarello.
The medieval town was founded by notarial deed in 1248 by the marquises of Clavesana Bonifacio III, Emanuele I and Francesco I, together with representatives of the population of the Neva valley, around the castle already mentioned in 1233; the founding deed is still kept today in the town's historical archive. In 1397 Zuccarello became the seat of the marquisate of the Del Carretto. In the old town also stands the chapel of Sant'Antonio Abate, from between the 17th and 18th centuries, which holds a 15th-century crucifix carried in procession through the streets of the town, lit by torches, on Good Friday.
