Erli

Province: Savona · Region: Liguria · Population: 256 · Postal code: 17030

From the surnames of the village — Negri, Caffari, Caffa, Falco, Berriolo — scholars conclude that among the inhabitants of the early Middle Ages there were people of Saracen origin, left here after the raids. The name of the municipality, on the other hand, is said to come from the Heruli, a people who arrived with the end of the Roman empire.

Since the summer of 2014 there has been serious digging in the cave of Arma Veirana, with researchers come from Germany, Canada and the United States. And there is a modern detail: on the coat of arms, granted in 1968, there are twelve stars on a blue field, those of the European flag. The population is 256.
