Digging to build a supermarket brought back to light the Roman village that gave the whole valley its name. It was called Cavellas, it covered about 1000 square metres and it stood on an important road linking this area to the Val Camonica: from that name comes Val Cavallina. It is the kind of find that happens by chance and rewrites the geography of a place, because until then the link between the valley's name and an actual settlement had been only a hypothesis.

Four thousand and twenty-one inhabitants in the province of Bergamo, on the right bank of the river Cherio. The village has been called Casazza only since 1927, when the municipalities of Mologno and Molini di Colognola were unified: the union had already been attempted in 1797, in the Napoleonic period, and had lasted a few decades. At Mologno the Suardi castle and its tower remain, though the tower is much lower than it once was: its height was cut down when the Republic of Venice confiscated all the family's property. The parish church of San Lorenzo dates from 1769 and stands on the ruins of the previous one, which still exists and is called San Lorenzo Vecchio.
