The baghèt is the Bergamo bagpipe, and Casnigo declares itself its homeland. The instrument is attested from 1347, when a player seen from behind found his way into a fresco in Santa Maria Maggiore at Bergamo; it was played only in winter, when work in the fields fell off and the peasants gathered in the stables, and after Epiphany it was put away until the following year. By the mid-nineteen-fifties it had been abandoned and was reckoned extinct, until the research of Valter Biella brought old examples back to light: seven original instruments precisely in the Val Gandino and the middle Val Seriana. The last player of the tradition was Giacomo Ruggeri of Casnigo, who lived from 1905 to 1990.

The village stands at five hundred and fourteen metres, on the south-western edge of the Val Gandino plateau, and is made of contrade: Plazza, Ere, Strecià, Nosito, Grumello, Fossato and others besides. The plateau is called Agher, from the Latin ager, countryside: it was fertile ground closely cultivated, and today it is partly occupied by chemical and textile works. Three thousand three hundred and thirty-four inhabitants in the province of Bergamo, on the left bank of the Serio.
