On the arms of Pognano there are two crossed daggers, and they recall something precise: the Guelph and Ghibelline struggles that between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries brought devastation and destruction here, above all at the hands of the neighbouring village of Lurano. It is a coat of arms that keeps a tally of the damage done by the neighbours. In 1406 Ottone Terzi burned and razed the castle and most of the village; in 1428 Venice arrived, breaking new ground and digging irrigation channels, but the border with the Milanese was close and the raids went on.

The churches, on the other hand, took over from one another quickly. The church of the Visitation to Mary and Joseph, of the sixteenth century, served as the parish church until 1790, when it was replaced by that of Sant'Antonio, larger and more practical; but Sant'Antonio too lasted little more than a century, because at the start of the twentieth another was built, dedicated to Saint Charles Borromeo, to a design by Elia Fornoni. Inside are paintings that came from the two earlier parish churches. The inhabitants, meanwhile, call each other Gamber, the shrimps, and they are fond of the festival that bears the nickname.
