Saints Peter and Paul, patrons of Azzano Mella
📅 Every year, on 29 June
Azzano Mella celebrates Saints Peter and Paul on 29 June, in the church dedicated to them.
There exists an association of the Azzano of Italy, and Azzano Mella belongs to it. They are eleven municipalities and hamlets bearing that name, whose inhabitants are all called azzanesi: Azzano d'Asti, Azzano Decimo, Azzano San Paolo, Castel d'Azzano, this one and six other hamlets scattered about the peninsula. A twinning born not of a shared border or a shared river, but only of a word.
The name of this Azzano, however, has not always been this. Between 1927 and 1957 the municipality was called Capriano Azzano, because in those years it had swallowed neighbouring Capriano del Colle; when the two separated, each took its own back. The village lies in the Brescian plain along the Mella, which gives it its second name; the climate is temperate and rainy all year, with 1077 millimetres of rain on average and November as the wettest month. Two thousand nine hundred and sixty-nine inhabitants in the province of Brescia.
