On 10 May 1762, in the hot midday hour, the people of Barbariga came out of their houses at the sound of the great bell and went with hoes and spades to destroy the rice fields of the Feroldina. Rice, whose cultivation was officially forbidden, was being sown all the same in the fields of the noble Valossi, and in the village people were dying: the parish priest Gerolamo Dionisi, who kept the chronicles, wrote that in that year more people died than in the previous hundred and thirty, and described the houses where one sick person had to nurse another, the fields left uncultivated for want of healthy hands, the roads travelled only by processions. Six years later, when new rice plantations appeared at Fenil Corno and again at the Feroldina, the people rose a second time.

Of that rice growing, practised until the eighteenth century in a land that had been all marsh and that the monks of Santi Cosma e Damiano had reclaimed, one thing remains today: the Bariloca, rice with hen and mushrooms, which since 2004 has been protected along with the casoncelli by the municipal denomination of origin. The names of the water remain too — Lama, Lamazzi, Cantarane — and the Fienile delle Monache, the only memory of that monastery. And there remains a cult that says what the place was like: Saint Vitus, the patron celebrated on 15 June, was anciently invoked against the danger of snakes.
