Offlaga

Province: Brescia · Region: Lombardy · Population: 4,269 · Postal code: 25020

On the first of January 1810 Offlaga lost its status as a municipality and its territory was assigned to Cignano. The Austrians gave it back six years later, and in 1928 a royal decree turned the matter entirely on its head: Offlaga absorbed the suppressed municipalities of Cignano and Faverzano. The village that had swallowed it ended up inside it. The three stars on the municipal arms stand for exactly this, for the three settlements that make up the commune today, while the bee beside them is there to represent the industriousness of those who live in it.

Four thousand two hundred and sixty-nine inhabitants in the province of Brescia, on the plain, on the river Mella. A document of the twenty-fifth of March 761 mentions Ofolaga, and it is held to be the earliest written reference that has come down to us. The noble family that took its surname from the village died out with Apollonia in 1628: she left the whole family fortune to the Hospital of the Incurables, with the obligation to maintain a charitable foundation supporting a school for the children of Brescia. In 1876 a storm destroyed the entire harvest; in the same year the new bridge over the Mella was completed.
