Franciacorta is one of the best-known names in Italian wine, and the least populated municipality in the whole of Franciacorta is this one. Ome lies in its north-eastern corner, fifteen kilometres from Brescia, and it is made more of woods than of vine rows: the vineyards and olive groves are on the hills, but the green around them is the green of trees, and two torrents run through the village, the Gandovere and the Martignago.

Water, for that matter, is never lacking here. An average of 1370 millimetres of rain falls each year, spread over every month, and the wettest period is not autumn but the start of summer: June is the month with the most rain, January the one with the least. On the hills stand the scattered churches of the municipality: Santo Stefano Protomartire, San Michele, San Lorenzo Martire in the Valle district and, at Cerezzata, the sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Avello. Three thousand two hundred and thirty-eight inhabitants in the province of Brescia.
