Colverde came into being in 2014 from the merger of Drezzo, Gironico and Parè, but those villages had already been put together once, and in a way that nobody had liked. In 1928 Parè, Drezzo and Cavallasca were merged into a comune christened Lieto Colle, "cheerful hill": the name had been suggested by Margherita Sarfatti, at the time Mussolini's lover and the owner of a villa at Cavallasca. After the Liberation the discontent was immediate, but that comune was not dissolved until 1956.
The second time it was the inhabitants who decided, by referendum. The three communities have long histories: Gironico is named in a document of 724, by which the Lombard king Liutprand gave the basilica of San Carpoforo a wood called silva dominica, while Drezzo appears in a notarial deed a few decades later. And between 1295 and 1298 the people of Gironico were the only ones in the whole diocese of Como to be entirely exempted from an extraordinary tax demanded by pope Boniface VIII: they were too poor to pay it.
