Within the municipal territory there is a place called Bernasca, and it is from there that the surname Bernasconi comes, one of the commonest in the whole Como area. Bernasca was also one of the three parcels that the Spanish government of the Duchy of Milan put up for auction in 1652, together with Camnago and the Cassina del Ronco, to finance the military spending of Philip IV. The city of Como turned up at the auction too, and not out of any interest in the land: it feared that whoever bought it might, by virtue of the feudal rights attached, exempt the inhabitants from paying taxes to Como.
Four thousand two hundred and seventy-four inhabitants in the province of Como, four kilometres from the Swiss border. The municipality of Faloppio was created from scratch in 1928 by merging Camnago Faloppia and Gaggino, and the first of the two had changed its name several times: Camnago Faloppia, then Camnago di Uggiate, then Camnago Faloppia again from 1893. At Bernasca stands the oratory of Santa Maria Maddalena, founded in 1497 inside a fortified farm complex: the stoup is made from a pre-Romanesque capital, and a candle given by Innocent XI is kept there.
