Lezzeno is not so much a village as a line: the parish stretches for about seven kilometres along the lakeside road and takes in seventeen hamlets. Into the base of the bell tower, which dates from 1856, a Roman tombstone of the first or second century is built, found somewhere in this territory. Higher up, above the hamlet of Rozzo, the ruins of a great tower remain: it was part of the defensive system of the Isola Comacina, and in 1169, when the island was destroyed, the men of Como came to plunder here too, because Lezzeno stood with Milan.
The sixteenth century, on the other hand, is a chapter nobody likes to tell: under the State of Milan Lezzeno was the scene of numerous condemnations to the stake for witchcraft. In church matters the village long depended on the pieve of Isola, within which it served as a vice-parish, and it broke away only in 1780, when the bishop of Como Giambattista Muggiasca raised the church of Santi Quirico e Giulitta to an autonomous parish.
