In 1497 Ludovico il Moro gave away the pieve of Nesso, and Veleso with it, to Lucrezia Crivelli: the sieve of her family's arms is still in the municipal coat of arms. The name, they say, is Celtic and means seen from afar; the village stands high on the Larian Triangle, at the foot of the San Primo.
In 1797 Pietro Zerboni, a mason from Erno who had emigrated to Germany, brought to Italy the first machine for weaving metal cloth and opened a factory in Milan, where men from Erno, Veleso and Zelbio went to work: from those hands, in the middle of the nineteenth century, came the metal fire curtain of La Scala. Between 1928 and 1948 Veleso did not exist: it had been merged with Zelbio.
