Feast of Saint Martin of Tours
📅 Every year, on 11 November
On 11 November Orsenigo celebrates its patron Saint Martin of Tours; the town preserves the Villa del Soldo.
In 1160, when the Milanese faced Frederick Barbarossa at the battle of Carcano, fighting also took place at Tassera, between Alserio and Orsenigo. For the contribution they made to the victory the men of Orsenigo received an unusual reward: Milanese citizenship. The two crossed swords of the municipal arms recall precisely that day.
The village castle, on the other hand, did not survive: the Torriani began dismantling it in 1276, though a garrison remained there until the early seventeenth century. Today the church and the parish house stand at the highest point of the village, built entirely on what was left, and in the cellars of the parish house pieces of the walls can still be seen. On the hill of the Soldo, in 1878, a burial ground of the fourth or third century before Christ was found, which tells of the Celtic origin of the place. Two thousand seven hundred and fifty-seven inhabitants in the province of Como.
