Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel
📅 Every year, on 29 September
On 29 September Anzano del Parco celebrates Saint Michael the Archangel; the village also preserves the park of Villa Carcano.
Until 1863 the village was called simply Anzano; the «del Parco» came from the great park of Villa Carcano, the villa that Alessandro Carcano had designed between 1794 and 1795 by Leopoldo Pollack, with a hall on an elliptical plan. Before that, on the modest moraine hill where the old centre stands, there had been a castle: its entrance arch remains, and the traces say that originally there was a drawbridge too. The coat of arms recalls that vanished castle and sets beside it the axe of the Carcano family.
Under the parks of the villas Roman tombs and gravestones have come to light, and in the excavations two coins: a Roman one of 221 BC and one imitating the hemidrachm of Massalia, that is of Marseille — a Greek piece that travelled all the way up here, where before the Romans the peoples of the Golasecca culture lived. Much later, and for many years, Il Mulino worked at Anzano, Mogol's recording studio: Lucio Battisti, Ivan Graziani, Bruno Lauzi and Oscar Prudente cut their records there.
