Rovellasca also celebrates the Holy Crucifix, whose patronal feast is held every Shrove Tuesday of Roman carnival.
It is said that in the year 1508 a terrible epidemic struck the people of Rovellasca, then a small village of a few hundred people: the praying community moved behind the cross of the high altar, raised in procession through the streets of the town, until the contagion ceased. This is how the patronal feast of the Holy Crucifix was born: ever since, Rovellasca has renewed the memory of that ancient procession every year, and the faithful celebrate for three days, finally carrying the crucifix through the town's streets.
