The patroness of Schignano is Maria Santissima Assunta (Assumption of Mary), celebrated on 15 August; the municipality holds the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta.
According to tradition, the survivors of the plague rebuilt the village further uphill, where the hamlet of Occagno now stands, vowing to celebrate the Madonna Addolorata every year. Since 1476 a wooden statue, known as the 'Madonna del Voto', has been carried in procession on 27 December.
