La Valletta Brianza

Province: Lecco · Region: Lombardy · Population: 4,676 · Postal code: 23888

The comune came into being on the thirtieth of January 2015 from the merger of Perego and Rovagnate, but it had to wait nine years for a coat of arms: the one that represents it today was approved in 2024 and presented to the inhabitants on the second of June the following year. All three pieces of the territory are in it: the castle of Perego, the two crossed swords of Rovagnate and the three cypresses of the locality of Monte.

The castle of Perego, though, has a feature not often seen in heraldry: out of its gateway springs an uprooted tree, its four roots outside and its trunk driven crosswise through the opening, while the crown spreads above. Of the churches in the comune the oldest is San Martino, which goes back to the eleventh century; the town hall, on the other hand, is inside Villa Sacro Cuore, a building of the early eighteenth century. In 2025 a fire destroyed the convent of Bernaga: the nuns, about twenty of them, all got out.
