Feast of San Bartolomeo
📅 Every year, on 24 August
On 24 August Margno, a municipality of 375 inhabitants in the province of Lecco, celebrates its patron San Bartolomeo.
Above the village, and reached by cable car, lies the Pian delle Betulle, a plateau of meadows at the foot of monte Muggio. Down in the village the parish church has a bell tower dated 1666 and a neo-Gothic front added in the nineteenth century; the pulpit, the confessionals and the choir were carved in walnut by craftsmen of the valley at about the same time. On the square stand the baroque chapels of the Via Crucis.
At the beginning of the nineteenth century Margno had fewer than three hundred inhabitants, and in 1809 it was suppressed and joined to Taceno; then it became a comune again, and in 1931, having taken in Crandola, it reached almost seven hundred. Of the medieval fief of the archbishops of Milan there remain the ruins of a small fort they call La Bastia; in the sixteenth century the valley fell into the hands of the Medeghino.
