In 1261 the castle of Tabiago took in about 900 men. They were Milanese nobles with their horses, fleeing the fighting that was ravaging the Brianza, and they shut themselves inside what was one of the strongest fortifications in the district. The troops of Alberto Pallavicino laid siege to it and the refugees had to surrender; some years later the castle was burned and destroyed. Rebuilt, it was occupied in 1285 by the Torriani. Of all this a single tower remains today.

Three thousand six hundred and thirty inhabitants in the province of Lecco, on the boundary with those of Como and of Monza and Brianza. The name appears for the first time in 848 as in vico et fundo Nebioni, and is said to come from the medieval Latin neblus, a stream fed by snows: the reference would be to the Bevera, which waters the territory to the east and south. From 1440 to the eighteenth century there existed the Squadra di Nibionno, a district entrusted first to the condottiero Luigi Dal Verme and from 1537 to the Sfondrati, who held it until 1788. Among today's farming activities are several snail farms raising stock for cosmetic use.
