Feast of Saint Eusebius
📅 Every year, on 2 August
On 2 August Pasturo, a municipality of 1,961 inhabitants in the province of Lecco, celebrates its patron Saint Eusebius (sant'Eusebio).
Pasturo appears in the Betrothed: it is the village Agnese comes from, Lucia's mother. And in the small municipal cemetery lies Antonia Pozzi, the poet who spent several years of her life here, in the family's holiday house. Two very different writers, then, have tied their names to a village of not even two thousand people at the foot of the northern Grigna.
In the church of Sant'Eusebio, on the square, there are frescoes painted between the end of the fourteenth century and the following one: they show Julian the Hospitaller at the moment when he kills his own parents by mistake, and in the background they set a Madonna enthroned with the Child between saint Catherine of Alexandria, saint Ambrose and saint Anthony Abbot. Higher up, above the pastures, stands the little white church of San Calimero, with its red sloping roof, which can be seen from the whole valley. Down in the village, meanwhile, they make cheese.
