Two documents of 848 and 855 state that at that time the village belonged half to a lady named Gettonia and half to Grimaldo, bishop of Bergamo. The remarkable thing is not so much the division as how long it lasted: the subjection of these lands to the descendants of the lady Gettonia and to the bishopric of Bergamo went on until 1200, that is for three and a half centuries. Of her nothing is known but the name, yet that name held a property together longer than many dynasties.
Three thousand eight hundred and ten inhabitants in the metropolitan city of Milan, on the left bank of the Martesana canal. In 880 Garibaldo, bishop of Bergamo, founded a hospital here, which he later left to the monastery of Sant'Ambrogio along with the church and its attached property. It was Frederick Barbarossa who took Bellinzago from that monastery and joined it to the fief of Inzago; from the sixteenth century the village belonged instead to the fief of Melzo of the counts Trivulzio. The full name dates from 1862: before that it was simply Bellinzago.
