On March 14, 1952, a presidential decree officially upgraded Melzo to the honorary status of a city. Currently home to just over 18,200 residents, the municipality covers a modest area of 9.7 square kilometers within the Metropolitan City of Milan.
Situated about 20 kilometers east of the regional capital, the town serves as a straightforward transit point. It connects to the broader rail network via its own station and sits a mere 10 kilometers from Linate Airport, sharing a direct border with Gorgonzola.
