Sitting at an elevation of 336 meters, Besana in Brianza holds the geographic record as the highest town in its province. Until 1864, maps and official documents simply recorded the settlement as Besana.
A presidential decree in February 1971 officially granted it the honorary status of a city. Today, it is a Northern Italian municipality home to exactly 15,510 residents, where the regional Brianzoeu dialect remains part of the local heritage.
